Founder of Black Girls In Media, Tasha McCaskiel, is on a mission to bring more Black women to the media industry. Better jobs, bigger paychecks, and more opportunities are just some of the goals this serial entrepreneur wants to accomplish. Since 2017, McCaskiel has helped nurture relationships and help over 200 women of color gain jobs and new opportunities within the media industry.
Over the years Black Girls In Media has hosted numerous brunches, workshops, events, and more to help women of color build their expertise and network. This weekend, Black Girls In Media is taking it up a notch with its first in person conference in Atlanta, GA on Saturday, August 20th.
Panels will include conversations on managing and building wealth, being creative in building your brand, as well discussing the complexities of being a Black women in a leadership role. These panels include a plethora of well versed women of color that work for companies like Travel Noire, Twitter, Warner Records, MTV, and more!
The Reel Effect founder, Meah Denee, spoke with McCaskiel about the BGIM conference and received a little advice on how to navigate the weekend. One tool that every woman should bring into the conference weekend is the understanding of networking and how to do it authentically. Not only is connecting with someone important but the follow up is even more crucial. McCaskiel said it so well, that in a fast paced world it’s so easy to forget about certain connections but the most simple and organic interactions can help kickstart a relationship.
